The Narrow Path: Staying Laser-Focused in a Hectic World

Narrow PathIn her book Jesus Today, Sarah Young speaks of the 3 D’s that keep us from growing in our faith and walking in our calling. The 3 D’s are Distraction, Deception, and Discouragement, and I wholeheartedly agree that these are major roadblocks standing between us and our ability to stay focused on materializing our God-given dreams.

In fact, I love Sarah’s categorization of our shared obstacles so much that I wanted to apply it to our roles as Kingdom entrepreneurs and give you some tools to overcome each one.

Do you ever make a plan to get something done in your business just to find yourself distracted by attention grabbers that quite honestly appear to be a lot more fun than working on that project in front of you? Or, perhaps you pack far more into your day that any reasonably productive person can possibly accomplish, and, while working on one to-do, you are already feeling distracted by what’s next on your list?

“It is possible to ‘multi-task’ ourselves into a state of unproductiveness as a result of nearly nonstop activity.”
—Rick Renner

In Matthew 18:8, the Bible teaches us how to deal with distractions and things that lead us to stumble: we are to “cut them off and cast them away”! That means if we want to accomplish what God has called us to do, we must be ruthless in combating distraction. Take inventory on what is distracting you and eliminate it so you can stay focused.

Romans 12:2 warns us of deception: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The world loves to present us with “shiny objects” in the form of shortcuts, get-rich-quick schemes, and an illusion of success presented by those who act on behalf of the great deceiver. Don’t buy into it!

The enemy’s scheme is to continually present lies as truth in order to lead us away from God’s plan. That is why it is absolutely vital to stay rooted in His Word and seek wise counsel from mature believers as we devise a strategy to grow our Kingdom businesses.

Ask the Lord to reveal the truth to you about a certain person or business you are thinking of partnering with. He will show you exactly who you are and are not meant to work with (Luke 8:17).

We can easily get discouraged when success comes slowly, when the world tells us we will surely fail, and when those around you are not supportive of the dream God has placed on our heart.

To stay encouraged, it is important that we surround ourselves with those who will edify us, lift us up when we feel down, and walk alongside us in loyalty. Hold steadfast to the vision God has given you for your Kingdom business, and, rather than just hope things will work out, expect Him to bring it to pass. Thank Him in advance for the great things He will accomplish through you and your business.SabineQuote14

Take time daily to come before Him in prayer and lay your worries, issues, fears, doubt, and challenges at His feet. There is no business problem so complex that God in His infinite wisdom cannot solve it. Stay open to unique and unusual ideas and solutions, and do not rely on your own limited portfolio of knowledge (Isaiah 55:8-9).

May the Lord’s Word be a lamp for your feet and a light on your path—always. For additional Kingdom business tips and encouragement, download our FREE special report, “Ten Essential Tactics for New Christian Entrepreneurs”—click here.
